Heuristics are learned methods of decisions making which enable us to form judgements and opinions and well as make choices in limited amounts of time. They are known to be mental shortcuts which allow us to make snap decisions under pressure and with incomplete information. You may find yourself under unfamiliar circumstances, taking a long time to make a decision and or form a judgement, it is heuristics which allow us to cut back on both time and stress and make decisions.
On the following pages you will find both general and social heuristics in which we unknowingly use to make choices, form judgements, opinions, preferences, and solve problems.
